Publication of preliminary (partial) grades

According to the RSM Examination Manual 2015-2016, the examiner determines the result of a written examination as soon as possible, and no later than four weeks after the day on which it was taken. After an oral examination has been taken, the examiner determines the result immediately, and gives the student a written explanation.

Examiners cannot publish grades themselves, neither on Blackboard or on doors and cabinets, nor by email;
The publication of the preliminary (partial) grades is done by the Programme Managers on SIN-Online where the student receives his grade by SMS and by email;
Official final grades should be submitted at the Exam Administration as soon as possible after the perusal. This should be done in hardcopy with the examiner’s signature as well as by email to e.rsm@oos.eur.nl/room EB-34. Lecturers should use the Excel grade list provided by this department and sent to the lecturer before the date of the exam;
In case a student did not show up during the exam, the examiner should mention "NO" instead of a grade. "NO" is the abbreviation of niet opgekomen/no show. Other abbreviations used at RSM are: "FR" for students who are suspected of fraud, "O" (abbreviation of onvoldoende/insufficient) for students who did not meet the minimum grade requirement and therefore could not get a final grade.
Examinations are assessed with grades on the scale 0.0 – 10.0, accurate to one decimal place, where a 5.5 is the lowest pass grade. Practical tests may be assessed with a ‘pass' or ‘fail'. If examination grades have to be rounded off and averaged-within a course, or between examination parts or to determine the GPA or the classification- the following rules apply:
- unless otherwise stated in the relevant course manual, examination grades are averaged according to the weighted average of the credits, where the average is rounded to one decimal place, which are rounded, so 5.45 is rounded to 5.5, a 6.95 a 7.0 a 5.44 a 5.4, etc.;
- if examination parts are assessed on the basis of more than one examination, - then the rule applies that the examination parts are always rounded off to one decimal before subsequent calculations are made.

Partial grades from previous years

A coordinator should typically include information in the course manual text for students retaking the course which specifically mentions whether partial grades (for example assignments or mid-term examinations) from the previous year can be carried over to the current academic year. In some instances students may be granted permission from the Examination Board to carry over grades (which would otherwise not be allowed). In this case, the Examination Board will inform the course coordinator per email about such a decision.
